The VERSITRON M82xxD series RS232 to fiber converter is designed to ensure secure and reliable transmission of serial data over fiber optic media. This converter enables the seamless integration of RS232 serial devices with fiber optic technology, providing a robust solution for long-distance communication needs.
The RS-232 to fiber optic converter ensures consistent, transparent data transmission with minimal impact on the transmitted or received signals. This transparency, along with the ability to transmit over long distances-up to 2 km with multimode fiber and 20 km with single-mode fiber-makes this serial-to-fiber optic converter a versatile and reliable solution for diverse operational needs and critical communication requirements.
The RS 232 over fiber converter features a DB9 or DB25 connector for the digital interface and an LC connector for the fiber optic interface, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices. They are engineered with hot-swappable plug-in modules that can be conveniently mounted in a high-density 19" standard rack-mount chassis. For enhanced reliability, the rack-mount chassis supports a common power supply with optional power redundancy.
For stand-alone applications, the RS 232 media converter has a wall transformer that provides power through a one-pin connector. AC and DC power options are supported, with a DC input range of +5 to +15 VDC, offering operational flexibility.
Versitron M82xxD Series includes both DCE and DTE device options to accommodate varying system requirements:
- M821xD units: DCE devices, typically used to connect to DTE devices.
- M822xD units: DTE devices, designed for connection to DCE devices.
Built to withstand harsh industrial environments, this RS 232 to fiber converter operates reliably within a wide temperature range of -30°C to 70°C. It also incorporates advanced multiplexing capabilities, enabling the transmission of up to six asynchronous data streams using a single Fiber Optic MicroModem.

RS-232 Fiber Optic Micromodem (M82xxD) Review:
Reliable and Flexible Connectivity: VERSITRON's RS-232 Fiber Optic Micromodem
I have been using the RS-232 Fiber Optic Micromodem M8213D from VERSITRON for quite some time now, and I am highly impressed with its performance and versatility. While comparing it with other products online, I discovered its compatibility with various digital interfaces, including RS-232, RS-423, and MIL-188-114A (Unbalanced). Many products make similar claims, but they often fall short. However, this micromodem has proven to be exceptional. We have invested in both single-mode and multi-mode versions of these modems and have successfully employed them for full-duplex, simplex, synchronous, or asynchronous protocols. The device's auto-sensing capabilities and fully transparent operation contribute to its reliability.
Another aspect that caught my attention was the ease of modem installation. Upon consulting with the VERSITRON team, I learned that the modem can be used to support Interface Extenders (DCE-DTE) and modem links (DCE-DCE). This flexibility is truly amazing. Performance, data rate capabilities, temperature range, and ease of installation are some features that make it a highly commendable product in my opinion. You can take my words and consider this reliable micromodem to meet your connectivity needs.
