1G SFP Module Options

VERSITRON offers 1G SFP modules for a wide range of fiber optic network requirements. Standard duplex SFPs are available for multimode and singlemode fiber, while BiDi SFPs allow bidirectional communication over a single optical fiber.

Standard 1G Multimode SFP Modules

Standard multimode SFP modules are designed for shorter-distance Gigabit Ethernet connections using multimode fiber. Depending on the fiber type and module, available transmission distances range from several hundred meters to several kilometers.

Standard 1G Singlemode SFP Modules

Singlemode SFP modules provide longer-distance Gigabit Ethernet transmission and are available in configurations supporting distances from 10 kilometers to 100 kilometers. These modules are suited for campus backbones, telecommunications infrastructure, industrial networks, and other applications requiring extended fiber distances.

1G BiDi SFP Modules

VERSITRON also offers BiDi, or bidirectional, 1G SFP modules for applications where only one optical fiber is available. BiDi SFPs use different transmit and receive wavelengths, allowing two-way communication over a single strand of fiber.

BiDi modules are installed as complementary pairs. For example, one module may transmit at 1310nm and receive at 1550nm, while the corresponding module reverses those wavelengths. This allows a single fiber to carry both directions of the Gigabit Ethernet connection.

BiDi options are available for transmission distances of 10, 20, 40, 60, and 80 kilometers.

How to Choose the Right 1G SFP Module

Selecting the correct SFP module depends primarily on the network speed, fiber type, transmission distance, and available fiber infrastructure.

Multimode Fiber for Shorter Distances

Multimode SFPs are generally appropriate for shorter fiber links. VERSITRON offers 1G multimode options using 850nm and 1310nm wavelengths, including the GBMM and GB2MM modules.

The GBMM supports distances that vary according to the multimode fiber construction, while the GB2MM supports up to 2 kilometers.

Singlemode Fiber for Long-Distance Links

Singlemode SFPs are designed for significantly longer transmission distances. VERSITRON's standard 1G singlemode portfolio includes options for 10km, 20km, 40km, 70km, and 100km links.

BiDi SFPs for Single-Fiber Networks

If your network has only one available fiber strand, a BiDi SFP can provide a practical alternative to conventional duplex SFPs. BiDi modules use separate wavelengths for transmitting and receiving data, allowing both directions of communication to share one fiber.

VERSITRON offers BiDi configurations for distances up to 80 kilometers.

BiDi SFP:

Uses different optical wavelengths for transmitting and receiving data, allowing both directions to operate over a single fiber strand.

This makes BiDi SFPs particularly useful when fiber availability is limited or when installing additional fiber is impractical.
