What are the fiber types with respect to speed and distance?
It is important to consider your speed and distance requirements when selecting the fiber type. Some mission critical and telecom applications require high speed data transfer. Multimode fiber cables are generally used for this purpose, which offer a data transfer rate between 10 and 100 Mbps for short to medium distances up to 2 km. Single mode fibers can be used for a distance of up to 5 to 10km at 1310nm with 1 or 10 Gigabit Ethernet. With optical fiber cores of about 62.5nm, multimode fiber cables can be used for distances up to 300 meters. Fibers with a 125nm core can be used for a distance from 100 to 600 meters.
