Fiber Optic Modem II fiber serial data modems – Circuit Card Format

FOM II Modems
Fiber optic modem II is a type of serial data to fiber converter, which is connected to the serial devices using fiber optic cables. VERSITRON offers a wide selection of fiber optic modems that are manufactured in a circuit card format. Our product line of FOM II modems include solutions for converting the following interfaces: 2-wire telephone, 4-wire audio modems, RS-530 serial data to fiber converter, RS-232 serial to fiber converter, high speed RS-530 fiber modem, T1 interface extenders, and  dual channel fiber optic isolator modems.
All our serial data modems can be installed as rackmount or stand-alone depending on the housing options you choose. All fiber modems feature LED indicators for instant system monitoring, SFP modules, and are compatible with the VERSIMUX II multiplexer platforms.

4-wire Telephone or Audio Fiber Optic Modems

VERSITRON FOM II Series Model F272XB serial data modems are copper to fiber analog telephone devices that support secured full duplex voice communications. The data modems offer a fiber optic link for two, four-wire telephones or one channel of stereo audio. The modems are used in various usual and unusual applications such as fighter aircraft. They are regularly used to provide an intercom link, PA system or other 4-wire analog services. Copper to fiber connectivity is supported by the F272xB devices when used for one channel of stereo audio or two channels of mono audio.

2-wire Fiber Optic Telephone Modems

Our 2-wire telephone modems are used in pairs with the F270xA and F271xAD units. These fiber optic modems are used to extend a single analog telephone line over a single mode fiber or duplex multimode. The F270xA functions acts as the exchange side modem and F271xA as the subscriber side modem. The F271xA modem is used at each end of the connection in ring-down or intercom applications. The LC fiber connectors serve as the fiber optic interface and RJ11 connectors serves as the copper interface for the telephone input. These serial data modems are used in gated community applications where the gate and the monitoring station are a great distance apart from one another.

RS-232 Serial Data to Fiber Converter

The Model F280xD link uses fiber optic cable up to 20 KM for 1310nm single mode optics and 2 KM for 1310nm multimode optics. They are used to extend an RS-232 signal over fiber. The modems are DCE/DTE switch selectable, and can be used as a four channel synchronous/asynchronous data multiplexer. These modems can be easily interfaced with other VERSITRON FOM II series F28xxD fiber optic modems and VERSITRON M62xxD/M82xxD Fiber Optic MicroModems.
The Model F280xD link enable asynchronous, synchronous or isochronous simplex or full duplex data transmission with fully transparent operation. It has a maximum data rate of 128 Kbps. These serial data modems are designed to support interface signals that comply with the RS-423, EIA/TIA RS-232 or CCITT V.24/V.28, and MIL-STD-188-114A standards. This interfacing is accomplished by multiplexing the control signals along with data and clock signals and are transmitted to the remote unit, and the remote unit, the signal is again de-multiplexed and applied to the interface.

High Speed RS-530 Serial Data to Fiber Converter

VERSITRON’S F282xD products are optical modems that are designed to extend an RS-530 signal over fiber. The FOM II modems can support data rates up to 5 Mbps, eight channel data multiplexer, and terminal/source timing option. The RS-530 serial to data fiber converters support interface control signals compliant to EIA/TIA RS-422, RS-530, RS-449, MIL-STD-188-114A, and V.35 standards. Our RS-530 serial data to fiber converters are DTE/DCE switch selectable and interface with other VERSITRON FOM II series F28xxD Serial modems as well as the Fiber Optic MicroModems.

High Speed RS-530 Serial Data to Fiber Converter

The FOM II Series Model F22xxA high-speed fiber optic modems convert RS-530 copper signals to fiber optic to create isolation and extend communication between two RS-530 devices. These fiber optic modem IIs are designed to convert RS-530 data at speeds up to 100 Kbps (asynchronous) and 10 Mbps (synchronous). The signals are transmitted up to 20 KM on singlemode fiber cable and 2 KM on multimode fiber cable with operation that is fully transparent. The devices support RS 530 or MIL-STD-188-114 standard signals. They can used as two channel modems, where the first channel is used as data and second for transmission. These two channels can be used for data transmission in 100 Kbps asynchronous operation. The operation modes may include forced, automatic, forced synchronous, and forced asynchronous. LC fiber optic connectors are common to all models. The F22xxA fiber optic modems II can operate in variable data rates from 20 Bps to 10 Mbps in automatic mode. These modems are used in high-speed telemetry systems.

Dual Channel Isolators

The VERSITRON FOM II Series Fiber Optic Isolators are receivers and transmitters that can easily transmit simplex information channels over fiber optic cables. The fiber optic serial converters support data rates from 50 Bps to 100 Kbps for unbalanced and 50 Bps to 10Mbps for balanced signals. The F293x and F290x support the interface control signals with Rs-422, RS-232, RS-449, RS-423, TTL, MIL-STD-188-114 unbalanced/balanced, and NRZ standards. The unit may be configured as dual asynchronous data channels or as one clock circuit and one asynchronous data circuit. We provide ST fiber optic connectors as the standard for all the models in this series.
