GENERAL DESCRIPTION

VERSITRON FOM II Series Model F272X Group 4-Wire Telephone Fiber Optic Modems provide full-duplex secure voice communications at distances up to 15 km with fully transparent operation. These modems convert 4-wire analog Trellis (V.32) coded signals (with data rates to 9.6 Kbps), such as found in STU III equipment.

Three versions are available for use in 4-wire analog circuits, and they provide an interface to central-office voice grade signals. Models F2722 and F2724 utilize multimode fiber and Model F2725 utilizes singlemode fiber. All models have ST optical connectors and a DB9 electrical interface. In addition any of the models can be used in the VERSITRON FOM II enclosures and chassis.

The Model F272X can also operate as a telephone modem, data modem, or both. The 4-wire telephone modem is now capable of transmitting both voice and data signals simultaneously over one fiber optic cable.

FEATURES

To match specific communications link distance requirements, the F2720 Group 4-Wire Telephone Modems incorporate inter-changeable optical modules that may be installed easily in the field. These products simultaneously transmit and receive analog signals to and from remote locations, using proprietary digital coding and multiplexing techniques. Digitized signals are converted into light using an 850 or 1300 nm optical transmitter. This permits operation with 50/125, 62.5/125 or 100/140 mm multimode fiber-optic cable or 9/125 and 10/125 singlemode fiber-optic cable.

Frequency response of the modems is virtually 0 dB over the voice pass band of 300 Hz to 3.4 KHz. To reduce the possibility of interrupted voice signals, built-in alarms warn of power or electric malfunctions. The digitizing process used by the F272X Group 4-Wire Telephone modem permits transparent fiber-optic isolation of the audio path. This process also provides reliable optical isolation of STU III data transmissions of up to 9.6 Kbps. Other features include two interface connector options, and LED status indicators (PWR and ALARM).

Mounting options include all of the VERSITRON FOM II chassis-HF1 and HF-2 desktop enclosures. and HF-2SS and HF-20 rack-mount chassis.
