GENERAL DESCRIPTION
VERSITRON Model F2300 Series DS3 Interface Extenders provide synchronous, full duplex data transmission at 44.736 Mbps at distances up to 30 km, over mulitmode or singlemode fiber optic cable, with fully transparent operation. These modems conform to CCITT G.703 and G.752, ANSI T1.404, AT&T 728A & B, and Bellcore DSX-3 CB119 standards.
 High-speed applications for DS3 Interface Extenders include the linking of multiplexers or an ATM input link in a local area network, and the extension of a telephone DS3 point of presence within a campus. To match specific communication link distance requirements, the F2300 Group DS3 Interface Extenders are available with multimode LED or single mode laser.
Note: T3 is an actual physical transmission medium or carrier which carries DS3 signals at a rate of 44.736 Mbps.
FEATURES
The Model F2300 Series DS3 Interface Extenders operate at 850nm or 1300nm and are compatible with all standard single and multimode fiber optic cable sizes. The F2304 multimode units will operate with a 19 dB link margin with 62.5/125mm multimode fiber optic cable, and with a bit error rate (BER) exceeding 10 to the minus 12th. The multimode DS3 Interface Extenders can also utilize 50/125 or 100/140 mm fiber cable. The singlemode versions use 8/125, 9/125 or 10/125mm fiber cable. The Model F2300 Series DS3 Interface Extenders employ the latest FPGA technology. The F2300 Modems transmit and receive data using a proprietary VERSITRON encoding scheme. The data signals are divided into 8-bit parallel streams sampled at approximately 111 MHz.
The DS3 Interface Extenders provide bipolar 3-zero substitution (B3ZS) line code conversion, and transport M13 and C-bit parity framed or unframed signals. Other features include two fiber interface connector options, 75 input with a BNC connector pair, 5 LED status indicators and a loopback switch to troubleshoot the copper and optical portions of the circuit.
Mounting options included all of the VERSITRON FOM II chassis – HF-1 and HF-2 desktop enclosures and HF-2SS and HF-20 rack-mount chassis.
