GENERAL DESCRIPTION
If space is limited at one end of your application link, this product will allow you to use an RS-232 FOM II product at one end and an RS-232 MicroModem at the other end. In fact, the VERSITRON F280xM RS-232 fiber optic modems are designed to provide fiber optic links as interface extenders, modem links, or four channel multiplexers for synchronous, asynchronous, or isochronous data. In addition, units are DTE/DCE switch selectable.
The F280xM modems can be used over multimode or singlemode fiber optic cable, and the link is fully transparent in both directions providing full-duplex, half-duplex, or simplex data transmission up to 64 kbps with source or terminal timing. The fiber optic circuit consists of two units connected via fiber optic cable with data rates and electrical signal characteristics that conform to EIA RS-232 and MIL-STD-188C standards. This is accomplished by multiplexing the control signals along with clock and data signals and transmitting the combined signal to the remote unit. At the remote end the combined signal is de-multiplexed and applied to the interface. The F280xM modem is designed to operate with other VERSITRON F280xM, F282xM, M82xx, M62xx, and F28xx fiber optic modems.
