Fiber Optic Multiplexer
28 Voice or Data Channels
Unprecedented Flexibility

The Versimux fiber optic multiplexer is designed for local distribution of voice and data in secure and commercial environments at distances up to 15 km. Using time division multiplexing techniques, the Versimux combines data, clock, and control signals for up to 28 channels over a single fiber optic cable. Fully transparent operation assures compatibility with virtually any interface standard to permit quick and economical system expansion. The Versimux is configured to operate in the Model OMC-14 chassis. Up to 14 individual plug-in port cards are used to interface each data or voice channel. Because Versimux operates over fiber optic cable, problems caused by EMI/RFI are eliminated, while assuring security for voice and data signals.

VERSITRON has expanded on the basic multiplexer technique by combining several multiplexers into one master multiplexer. This approach is ideally suited for local data distribution since it provides the flexibility to operate with different types of communications devices while maintaining the cost efficiencies of one common multiplexer.

Other advantages include:

1. Elimination of "Channel Hop" and "Sync-Up" on a data channel. The channel framing technique used in Versimux is inherently immune to data patterns. Failure in the frame detection circuitry will cause audible and visual alarms and result in a random signal at the data outputs.

2. Extremely cost-effective operation. Versimux expansion capabilities permit fast, easy, and low cost system changes.

3. Immediate System Status Indication is provided for each port via color decoded annunciators, allowing you to monitor individual channel status at a glance. Control signals are dependent on the type of port card being used. For example, a port card for an RS-232 interface would include RTS, CTS, DSR, and DTR; while a port card for a telephone interface would display off-hook and ring indicators.

4. Built-in Diagnostic Circuits on Port Cards permit testing channels in either loop-base or point-to-point modes. The diagnostics consist of pseudo-random generator, bit error detector, and related switches and indicators.

5. Reliable, Long Term Data and Voice Communications result from the basic design concept of the Versimux. Audible alarms and status indicators on each card permit immediate isolation of a malfunction. When a new port card is installed, built-in diagnostics can verify satisfactory operation before it is placed in service. Individual port cards may also be replaced without affecting others. Dual power supplies provide redundancy. Power supplies operate from DC, AC, or both sources simultaneously.

6. Instantaneous Channel Synchronization to Assure Data Integrity results from a proprietary framing technique that is immune to data patterns.

7. In addition to use in secure traffic environments, the Versimux is ideal for many industrial applications since f.o. cable is immune to pulses generated by manufacturing equipment.
